Height:
• Size: Calathea “Beauty Star” typically grows to about 12-18 inches (30-45 cm) in height. In a terrarium or paludarium, its growth may be slightly smaller due to the more confined space and controlled conditions.
Lighting:
• Light Requirements: Calathea “Beauty Star” prefers bright, indirect light. It can tolerate low light but may not thrive and may lose its vibrant colors. Avoid direct sunlight, as this can cause the leaves to burn or become faded.
• Terrarium/Paludarium Lighting: In a vivarium or terrarium, use a full-spectrum plant lightto mimic natural conditions. Aim for 12-14 hours of light per day with a 10-12 hour night cycle to mimic natural day-night rhythms.
Maintenance:
• Pruning: To maintain the shape and health of the plant, trim off any dead or damaged leaves. Pruning also helps encourage new growth and keeps the plant looking tidy.
Humidity/Watering:
• Humidity: Calathea “Beauty Star” thrives in high humidity. It requires 60-80% humidity, which makes it ideal for a terrarium or paludarium. High humidity also helps prevent the edges of the leaves from curling or browning.
• Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist, but not waterlogged. Water when the top 1-2 inches of the soil feel dry. Use room-temperature water(avoid cold water) and ensure that the container has good drainage to prevent root rot. In very humid conditions, you may need to water less often, but avoid letting the soil completely dry out.
By providing the right light, humidity, water, and maintenance, your Calathea “Beauty Star” should thrive beautifully in a terrarium or paludarium setup.
